Ryback is off WWE television due to a contract dispute, according to PWInsider Elite. This may explain why his match with Kalisto was moved to the Payback pre-show. He was featured in the battle royal graphic on Raw but he did not appear in the match. All of this comes on the heels of, perhaps, Ryback’s best match of his career with Kalisto on Sunday.
The word from backstage at Raw was that he was sent home and he will be off TV indefinitely. Some people are under the impression that Ryback asked to be pulled from TV and he and the company are at odds over the terms for a contract renewal. His contract expires during the summer.
It’s no secret that Ryback has been unhappy with his role in the company. He has said publicly in interviews that he was not thrilled with being on the WrestleMania pre-show.
Here is what Ryback said during an interview in Dubai while promoting their European tour: “The last 3 WrestleManias have not been great. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail on that but it would’ve been nice to have been on the show where both of us belong. The US Title definitely belongs on there. Hopefully, next year, if there is a next year, that it will be a better experience.”
He also hinted that he might look at doing something else outside of WWE if things didn’t change: “I’ve heard in this business hard work doesn’t always pay off. So maybe The Big Guy has to go find another world where that does pay off. But you work really, really hard at something and you dedicate yourself, and you sometimes have to be told you’re somewhere else. That’s a tough pill to swallow time and time again but I’ve never stopped believing in myself and I never will. Next year should undoubtedly be a big year for The Big Guy.” Click here to watch the video interview with Ryback from Dubai.
There were some last minute changes to the battle royal. Besides Ryback, there were some more names missing from the battle royal. Jack Swagger, R-Truth and Fandango were featured in the Raw graphic but they were not in the match. Fandango and R-Truth were moved to a different segment with Goldust and Tyler Breeze. I contacted someone in WWE to find out if there were plans for Ryback and I was told that there were plans for him to wrestle at Extreme Rules. Obviously, that is no longer the case until the contract dispute can be worked out.
