WWE Superstar Sami Zayn, himself part of many successful tag teams, recently shared his strong opinion on who he believes is the greatest tag team in professional wrestling history. In a notable statement, his choice was a duo celebrated primarily for their work outside of WWE: Mark and Jay Briscoe, known collectively as The Briscoes.
Zayn made these comments on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He was responding to a post from Mark Briscoe, who was reflecting on the anniversary of his and his late brother Jay’s debut as a tag team. In his reply, Sami Zayn placed The Briscoes above many legendary WWE teams such as The Hardyz, The Dudleyz, The Usos, and The New Day.
“In terms of actual output and body of work over time, I say best tag team of all time,” Zayn wrote.
They are record-setting 13-time Ring of Honor (ROH) World Tag Team Champions. Mark and Jay also captured tag team championships in TNA Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling (IWGP Tag Team Championships), and Pro Wrestling NOAH (GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles), among other achievements.
The Briscoes’ celebrated and dominant run as a tag team tragically came to an end in January 2023. This was when Jay Briscoe sadly died in a car accident. His brother, Mark Briscoe, has since continued to wrestle as a highly respected singles competitor, carrying on Jay’s enduring memory and their family’s rich wrestling legacy.
