Sami Zayn Seemingly Responds To Fan Criticism

Sami Zayn appears to have taken notice of the fan criticism surrounding his United States Championship reign.

Ahead of his WrestleMania 42 title defense against Trick Williams, Zayn posted an image on Twitter suggesting he has not done anything wrong, though he did not explicitly address the backlash. The post came as fans have been increasingly vocal about their displeasure with his push, both online and at live events.

The criticism includes a “Sami Hogan” chant directed at Zayn during a recent episode of SmackDown, a reference to Hulk Hogan’s overstaying his welcome during the New World Order era. Zayn captured the US Title from Carmelo Hayes just weeks ago and was quickly booked for a WrestleMania championship match, a decision that has drawn pushback from fans who feel Hayes should be the one defending the title in Las Vegas.

The mixed reactions have fueled speculation that WWE could use WrestleMania 42 to execute a double turn, with Zayn transitioning into a villain role while Williams, who has been receiving increasingly positive crowd reactions despite being positioned as a heel, steps into the babyface spot. It’s been reported that WWE has discussed the idea of booking a double turn in the match.

WrestleMania 42 will mark Zayn’s eighth appearance at the event. It will be Williams’ first WrestleMania match. Hayes, who held the US Title before Zayn’s win, has yet to compete at a WrestleMania.

Williams challenges Zayn for the United States Championship on night two of WrestleMania 42 on April 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
