Plans change all of the time in WWE and it looks like there is some regret over the decision to release Samoa Joe from his contract.
Fightful is reporting that there is a belief among the talent that Samoa Joe is returning to in-ring action as part of the NXT roster.
The reason why the talent believes this is because Joe was seen at the Performance Center this week. It’s not confirmed that he has signed a new deal and there’s no word on why he was at the PC but Fightful noted that there have been pitches made within NXT to use Joe.
Joe was the most surprising name that was released as part of the budget cuts in April. He had been on the sidelines for over a year as an announcer on Monday Night Raw and he had not done anything physical since suffering a concussion in February 2020 during a Raw commercial shoot for the USA Network.
There is no doubt that many wrestling companies would have jumped at the chance to sign Joe after his non-compete agreement expired on July 15 but it looks like WWE wants him back. If he signs a new deal, then he can be ruled out as a surprise for Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary pay-per-view on July 17. Impact has teased the return/debut of several released WWE stars on their Slammiversary commercial.
Another name that has been discussed for a WWE return is Aleister Black but, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the belief is that he is headed to AEW.
