Samoa Joe will challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at Great Balls Of Fire

At WWE Extreme Rules, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt competed in an Extreme Rules Fatal 5-Way match for the opportunity to challenge Brock Lesnar at next month’s Great Balls Of Fire pay-per-view. The rules of the match were simple. The first person to get a pinfall would be the winner of the match and there were no disqualifications and no count outs. Joe and Wyatt formed a temporary alliance so they dominated the match for a large stretch of time. Of course, that alliance didn’t last for too much longer.

There was a cool spot with Reigns spearing Joe and Balor through the barricade. Rollins followed that up with a frog splash on Wyatt through a table. Rollins was holding his knee. I hope he was just selling. Reigns somehow got busted open as there was blood visible around his mouth and on his face when he and Rollins got back in the ring.

This was one of the better WWE pay-per-view matches of the year. I don’t think it’s a match of the year candidate but it was up there among the top matches so you should check it out if you missed it. The match ended with Balor hitting the double stomp on Reigns. Joe got in the ring and locked in the Coquina Clutch. Balor submitted and Joe will go on to face Lesnar next month.

Lesnar is advertised to appear on the 6/12 edition of Monday Night Raw in Lafayette at the Cajundome. It’s not clear yet if he will just be appearing in a dark segment or on the live broadcast but it would make sense for him to appear on the live broadcast since the Great Balls of Fire PPV takes place on 7/9. He is also advertised for Raw in Los Angeles on 6/26 and 7/23 in Phoenix.
