Santino Marella comments on CM Punk’s UFC debut, explains which wrestlers he thinks would be successful in MMA

Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella was recently interviewed by Hannibal TV to talk about various topics including his thoughts on former WWE star CM Punk’s MMA debut back at UFC 203 in September against Mickey Gall. Punk lost the bout by first round submission. Marella stated that it was tough because he lost and he knows that if you work hard at something, then you’re gonna become good at it. He stated that it takes a little bit longer to learn all the aspects to be an MMA fighter. He noted that if you want to be an MMA fighter then you should’ve been a college wrestler or a national competitor, and he thinks that would have helped Punk in his MMA career. Marella pointed out that Punk has some special abilities like his stamina, his technique is and flexible. He thought that maybe this is just a little case of too late for Punk.

When asked if he thinks that wrestlers fighting are good for the sport, Marella thought so and pointed out that Brock Lesnar kind of saved the reputation of pro wrestling. He thinks that Superstars like Jack Swagger, who was an All-American wrestler, Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes wrestling in college. “There is a lot of guys there that can go,” Marella stated.
