Santino Marella gave an exclusive interview to The Wrestling Observer’s Greg Mehaffy.
Marella knew that he would likely never wrestle again because of his neck injury but he said that he was blindsided by his WWE release. He said that a year after his neck surgery he figured that he couldn’t wrestle and the idea was for him to return in a non-physical role and for him to remain with the company long-term but he guesses that they changed his mind. “There was a little bit of talk about me potentially being the GM for Smackdown once the brand split and I was kind of waiting for that to happen.” He added that his release was kind of like a celebration because he was with the company for 10 years. He said that he’s been in talks with the writers for WWE Network content.
Marella says that he has already landed a part in a movie and he’s reading for a part in a cable show.
He also talked about the night he debuted with the company and winning the Intercontinental title on his first night on the main roster, the incident with Jim Cornette in OVW,his run with Vladimir Kozlov, riding with Randy Orton, starting BattleArts Academy, learning how to speak Italian and more.
