Santos Escobar has been announced for an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The announcement came shortly after Escobar, now going by Hijo del Fantasma again, marked his approaching free agency on social media.
The guest announcement from the Masked Republic and Headlocked Comic Book booth ran through his title history across CMLL, AAA, Lucha Underground and NXT/WWE, and described him as a second generation lucha legacy. It also pointed to what he has been doing away from wrestling.
“As successful as he has been his future is looking even brighter as he prepares to return to the ring once he has completed filming a yet to be publicly announced feature role in what is set to be a breakout performance,” the announcement read, adding that Escobar will be making his first public appearance of the summer on Friday and Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at booth 1901.
Escobar was with WWE from 2019 until this year, when he was released in April as part of the company’s post-WrestleMania cuts. He had been recovering from an injury sustained while working for AAA, and his last WWE match took place at the WWE-acquired AAA event Rey de Reyes 2026. He has been serving a 90-day non-compete since, which is due to lapse later this month.
