Sasha Banks was not originally booked to win the WWE Raw Women’s Championship

As noted earlier, WWE made a ton of changes last week as they taped last week and this week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.

The original plan at Extreme Rules was for Asuka to retain the Raw Women’s Championship but earlier in the day before the pay-per-view, the decision was made to stretch out the match so they could do it a week later on Raw. That match was taped last week. The booking was changed to have Banks win the title this week but the original plan was to have Asuka go to SummerSlam as the champion so she could defend against Shayna Baszler.

Meltzer said, “There were so many changes made including the Asuka and Sasha Banks stuff. That was all changed. Originally Asuka was going to defend the title against whoever injured Kairi and that was as of, at least Sunday night or Monday morning of last week right before the tapings [and] they tore that all up.”

As of now, it’s unclear who is next for Banks. In recent months they were playing up Banks vs. Bayley and that was the plan at one point for SummerSlam but there was no tease of dissension between them last night. As far as Baszler, it’s looking like Nia Jax might be her SummerSlam opponent.
