As we all know by now, Roman Reigns has been forced to take a leave of absence from WWE due to a recent leukemia diagnosis. Reigns made the news official to open up this past Monday’s episode of Raw. Reigns relinquished the WWE Universal Title and won’t be defending the strap on WWE Crown Jewel as expected.
Initially, it was expected that Reigns would defend his title at Crown Jewel in a Triple Threat match against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. Instead, Strowman and Lesnar will go one-on-one to determine who will win the vacant title. Former WWE star Sean “X-Pac” Waltman discussed the state of the Universal Title during an episode of his podcast, “X-Pac 12360.”
As for who he thinks will win the Universal Title after Reigns’ departure, Waltman wouldn’t be surprised to see WWE put the title on “The Monster Among Men”:
“[WWE] can always pivot at any point because, I mean, that’s kind of how they operate now. There is always a chance that somebody is going to go down with an injury, or an illness.
“Not so much like some kind of a scandal or like an Enzo type of thing. But there is that outlying possibility of silly sh-t happening too, but mainly injuries and things like that.
“So, you are always going to have to have a Plan B. And I see a big a– Plan B in Braun Strowman and I think [WWE] will go with him… I can see him in that spot,” Waltman said.
