We are sad to report that search efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard for former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard have been suspended. Obviously, this is not great news.
TMZ reports that there was at least one boat searching for Gaspard on Tuesday morning but the chances of finding him are extremely low at this point. Officials told TMZ that the case will not be closed until he is found but efforts have been drastically scaled back.
As was noted earlier, Gaspard was declared missing by police after being pulled by a strong riptide on Sunday. According to people on the scene, lifeguards rushed to pull everyone out of the water. Witnesses say that as lifeguards raced to save Gaspard, he motioned for them to save his son. They did so and a second riptide took Gaspard and he submerged.
Gaspard would be best known to WWE fans from the tag team Cryme Tyme along with JTG. Gaspard was released by WWE in 2010 and he went on to make waves in Hollywood with movie and television roles.
He performed stunts in movies like “Birds of Prey” and “Sandy Wexler” and he played the role of “Big Ass Julian” in the film “Get Hard” with Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell.
Gaspard was a great guy in and out of wrestling and the entertainment business and he has been heralded as a hero for the things he did when the cameras weren’t rolling. One example is from 2016 when he prevented in an armed robbery in Coral Springs, Florida at a gas station where an intoxicated man attempted to rob the clerk.
We send our deepest condolences to Shad’s family and friends during this horrible time.
Here is a video of Gaspard from 3 years ago where he talked about how he stopped the armed robbery.
