Following the abrupt ending of his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the status of Seth Rollins. While the belief within WWE is that Rollins suffered a legitimate knee injury, other reports suggest the situation may have been a pre-planned angle, with a third theory now emerging that combines both possibilities.
A Legitimate Injury or a Pre-Planned Angle?
The situation unfolded when Rollins landed awkwardly on his knee, prompting LA Knight to quickly hit his finisher for the win. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that while most people in WWE are insisting the injury is real, John Pollock of POST Wrestling was told days in advance that an injury angle was planned for the show.
“Levesque said that he’s getting examined in Birmingham tomorrow, and John Pollock was on his show and said that wait laid out the whole scenario that he had been told a couple days earlier, I think was on Thursday, that they were going to do this angle, and it was exactly what he was told… everyone is insisting that you know, that it was legit that he’s injured. It was knee injury… I tried to get a confirmation from someone if John Pollock was mistaken, and they would not say that. So I can say that much.”
A Third Theory Emerges
Co-host Bryan Alvarez then presented a third scenario from one of his sources, which suggests that Rollins is legitimately hurt, but that the injury did not happen in the match. According to this theory, the spot was a planned storyline to write Rollins off television so he could get a pre-existing injury taken care of.
“The reason these stories are conflicting is because he is hurt. But what happened on Saturday was a storyline, meaning he is hurt, but he did not get hurt on that spot. That spot was a cover for an injury that he has, which he will have worked on… The idea that it was suggested was he will be out of action for a little while, but they’re gonna say, like, nine months, or whatever, full they’ll give this whole thing, but he will be back much sooner than that.”
Meltzer added that this hybrid theory “makes the most sense,” as he had been told separately that Rollins’ Money in the Bank cash-in was planned to “come out of nowhere,” which would fit the narrative of a surprise early return.
As of Monday morning, the exact nature of Rollins’ status remains unclear. He is reportedly set to be examined by doctors in Birmingham, Alabama, and an official update is expected to be given on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
