Seth Rollins spoke with Alex McCarthy of TalkSport about a wide range of topics including WWE’s need to create new stars and if losing Paul Heyman hurts that need.
Heyman is a big believer in getting younger talent over and creating new stars instead of relying on the past. WWE is known to use older stars as their top talent rather than giving the younger generation pushes needed to become top stars.
Heyman was removed as the Executive Director of Raw by Vince McMahon due to declining viewership numbers of Monday Night Raw.
Since Heyman’s removal, WWE has brought back stars such as Ric Flair, Big Show, and a one-off in-ring appearance by Christian. They’ve also pushed Dolph Ziggler, a WWE veteran, from being an undercard act to a main event title challenger.
“Well, first of all, I think the emphasis is still on building stars for the future. Particularly during this time when there’s a lot of performers who are either opting out for their own safety or they are people that are getting sick here and there, so we’re missing a lot of our top-tier talent due to various circumstances.
But the emphasis is still certainly on building future stars and I don’t want Paul Heyman’s departure to be a reason why anybody thinks that that’s not the case, because it definitely is the case.”
Rollins also talked about his character, feuding with Rey Mysterio, and more. Check out the full interview here.
