Seth Rollins has a clear view on which match carries a two-night WWE event, and the timing of it is hard to miss.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Rollins said the match that closes the second night is the one that counts, and that he has never wanted anything else.
“I think all of us want to be at the top, and the top is the match that goes on last. I don’t care what anybody says.”
He acknowledged the argument runs both ways since WWE started splitting its biggest shows over two nights.
“I know there’s a lot of conversation around the WrestleMania main events now that there’s two nights, but I’m of the feeling that Night Two, the last match that goes on, is the money draw. That’s the big match. It’s the marquee match.”
“That’s the business I got into, so I’m always, always wanting to close the show.”
Rollins gets the spot he is describing this weekend. WWE confirmed the SummerSlam split on Monday, with ESPN’s Joe Tessitore laying out which matches land on each night, and Rollins challenging Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship is the headline attraction on Night Two on Sunday, August 2.
Night One on Saturday carries a heavy card of its own. CM Punk defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar meets Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell, and Liv Morgan defends the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY. Night Two also features the five-way ladder match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship along with two further title matches.
Reigns and Rollins have not met in a singles match on a premium live event in more than four years, dating back to the 2022 Royal Rumble. The two came up together in The Shield and have spent much of the past decade circling each other in one form or another.
Both nights run from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, starting at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT, streaming on the ESPN App in the United States with the first hour of each night airing on ESPN.
