Despite the logistical issues that come with running a major show inside of the Performance Center, WWE is moving forward with plans for WrestleMania but not everyone is on board.
WrestleVotes is reporting that a source in the company stated that “a majority of the talent are still hoping that Mania gets postponed.”
WV also noted that WWE officials really dislike the idea of matches taking place in a building without an audience. This is the reason why WWE did not air any matches this week on NXT and SmackDown had a little bit of wrestling but mostly talking segments, video recaps and the John Cena/Bray Wyatt match from WrestleMania 30 to fill up the two hours.
The NXT format may not be the same next week and they may have to air some new matches because they took a huge ratings hit this week against AEW with their non-wrestling show.
Plans can change and most likely will but as of now, the plan for this weekend is to tape matches for the next couple of weeks of SmackDown and for Raw to air live on Monday and to tape the following week’s Raw on Tuesday. There is a lot of talk that WrestleMania will be taped possibly sometime next week but wrestlers are in the dark right now on Mania taping plans. For those of you wondering what Vince McMahon’s thought process is on not postponing WrestleMania – Dave Meltzer noted this week that McMahon just wants to get through the show because there is no way to know when the ban on large gatherings will be lifted. They can reschedule for June or July but there is no guarantee that the large gathering ban will be lifted by that time.
As noted earlier, some WWE stars may have trouble getting into the United States for WrestleMania, including a top star. If that happens, then it would not surprise me to see Mania postponed. Click here for more on that story.
