The Vincent J. McMahon Sr. Legacy of Excellence award went to Stephanie McMahon.
Here is a recap of the segment…
McMahon said that his family has been presenting sports entertainment for over 100 years. He talked about his father being inducted into the MSG Hall Of Fame in 1984 and this award means legacy. McMahon said that the person being honored tonight is a warm, good-hearted soul like his father.
Stephanie came out and gave a tearful speech and talked about fans being supportive of her. The fans hated this, of course. She acknowledged her partner in life Triple H.
Shane McMahon’s music and the place exploded. Shane said that the award should go to someone worthy and it’s not Stephanie. Stephanie said that it’s convenient to sit at home and say what he would do in business. Shane looks at Vince and says, “she doesn’t know, does she?”
Shane said that Steph and her husband have been driving things in the ground…injuries, ratings and stocks. Stephanie yelled at him to leave. Shane asked Vince if he should tell her. Shane revealed that Vince messed up big time several years ago and he (Shane) saved the day. He and Vince cut a deal and in that deal Shane was able to build some businesses. Shane said that Steph has been able to climb so far is because he let it happen.
Vince said that he needs to have a word with Shane. Steph said that she can get him a ticket to WrestleMania if he wants. Vince told Shane that they will talk later. Steph seemed concerned and asked if this is true.
Steph left the ring and said she would never forgive Shane for this. Vince says, “what’s this all about?” and says that he’ll write another check if that’s what he wants. Shane said that this not about money and he left lotto money to get from underneath his table. Shane said that the legacy award is about Vince’s grandfather and dad. Shane said that he wants this business to be around for future McMahon generations but it’s not headed that way. Shane says that he wants control of Monday Night Raw. Vince said that things have changed and Shane can’t just step in and pick up where he left off. Shane said that he wants to make sure that there is generational…Vince interrupted and said that Shane came out to embarrass himself and Stephanie. Vince asked if the fans want Shane to run Raw. Vince said that the fans don’t have a clue. Vince said that he’ll give Shane what he wants as long as Shane has one match on one night. He said that Shane gets his wish if he wins. If Vince wins then Vince gets the key to a lockbox with the valuables in it. They shook hands and Vince said something that was bleeped. He said something about giving Shane beatings. Shane agreed to the match. Vince named the name and place that is almost as big as Shane’s ego. Place and time is WrestleMania. The opponent will be The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell.
