On the latest edition of WWE Last Ride Post-Mortem, the former WWE Champion spoke about some of the moments covered in the episode including this admission by Taker.
Michaels started out by talking about how he didn’t understand the gravity of it at the time and that this documentary shows a different side of Taker as a human being.
“It was a sign of him, a vulnerability that nobody knows about. I understood that because he was only doing, I don’t mean only, but he was already just doing one a year at that time in a very limited schedule. Most people really enjoy doing that and can do that for quite some time. I understood the comment. I was struck by the tone of it. It wasn’t until much later that I sort of grasped that.”
Michaels noted that of course he always knew Taker.
“I didn’t know he was gonna come out publicly, so to speak, in that way because it takes a lot of vulnerability man and not everybody wants to go there in this line of work. Once he did, that’s when you go like, “Oh! Oh d**n! It’s a real issue and I understand it and appreciate it.”
Michaels added that there are so many things that have to align for that to happen. He stated that he didn’t appreciate his situation in the gravity that he should’ve regarding being okay with his retirement.
