Shawn Michaels Needs Double Knee Replacement Surgery, Recently Had “twisted” Rods Removed From His Back

On the latest episode of his “Kliq This” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash provided a rare and detailed update on the health of his close friend and fellow Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels. Nash revealed that Michaels recently underwent a significant surgery to address a decades-old back injury and is also dealing with other long-term health issues that will require future procedures.

Nash explained that Michaels had an operation to remove hardware that was inserted into his back following his infamous casket match injury in 1998. That’s the famous match that forced Michaels to stop wrestling after WrestleMania XIV. At the time, many believed he would never wrestle again. Nash described the condition of the rods that were taken out, indicating they had deteriorated over time. “Shawn just got done. He got an operation and got because when he f—ed his back up on that casket match, they put some rods and s–t in his back,” Nash said. “And they had to take them out, because they were all twisted.” Nash also added that the procedure provided some immediate relief, stating that Michaels “woke up from surgery and was like in less pain.”

In addition to the recent back surgery, Nash stated that Michaels is facing other significant health problems that will require medical attention in the future, specifically with his lower body. Nash was direct about the upcoming procedures his friend needs. “And Shawn needs both his knees replaced on top of that,” he said. He also speculated that years of physical stress on his body may have led to other issues, adding, “And who’s to say, as long as they’ve [Shawn’s legs] been bowed like that, there’s not some hip things.”

The conversation about Michaels’s health arose while Nash was discussing whether he could ever see his friend taking over Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s high-level corporate role in WWE. Nash expressed his doubts, suggesting that Michaels is content with his current position running NXT and his more relaxed lifestyle in Florida. “So I think when Paul calls it a day, I don’t know if that would be something that, like, why?” Nash questioned. “You know, he lives in Lakeland, he’s got this little schedule. Nobody’s going to take NXT, like, Why? Why jump up and take that?”
