Few people have been able to establish an amazing legacy and as many awesome nicknames as Shawn Michaels. Every now and then fans will get an itch to see HBK perform and he’s always been able to graciously turn down the opportunity because he’s retired now and has been that way since 2010.
HBK is now known as Coach Michaels at the WWE Performance Center and he’s loving his job with NXT as a producer on television and being a part of the business once again. It took some provoking from Triple H for him to take the position as a coach but we’re all glad The Showstopper is around so he can influence another generation of performers.
Mr. WrestleMania recently spoke to Sky Sports and when this same question came up about an in-ring return Michaels had a different answer than the one we typically hear from him. The 52-year-old WWE Hall Of Famer really couldn’t rule out another match at this point but coming out of retirement won’t be a long-time deal at all even if he decides to lace up his boots once again.
“I’ve been retired for eight years now and when it got to the five-year mark I thought people would start asking me but they just kind of stopped. I think it’s one of those that you would never say never and if it was just for a one-off then it’s something that I would take a look at.”
This is certainly much more positive than anything we had previously heard from HBK about a possible comeback. “It could be possible,” Michaels continued, “but people would have to accept they wouldn’t be getting the Showstopper, Mr. WrestleMania, and that I’m 52-years-old now.”
He said guys like AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, and Johnny Gargano top his list of who he would like to face but ended up admitting, “for a one-off match now, I’d need it to be a tag team match with Hunter and I can just do a few crotch chops and have some fun.”
It would be a lot of fun if Shawn Michaels made a return of any kind, that’s for sure and his name would make a fine addition to another WrestleMania marquee for one more match. But only time will tell if it actually ends up happening at this point.
