Shinsuke Nakamura nearly landed himself in hot water last year during his match with John Cena. The Japanese star went head-to-head with “The Leader Of The Cenation” on an episode of SmackDown Live last year in August. A number one contender’s position was on the line in the bout. Unfortunately during the match, Nakamura accidentally dropped Cena on his head with a botched move.
Nakamura recently did an interview with The Gorilla Position prior to SummerSlam and discussed the botch. He revealed that someone backstage – who he couldn’t name – was very upset with him for the incident. Fortunately, Cena was able to step in and take some of the heat off of the former New Japan Pro Wrestling star:
“Uh – I don’t know if I can tell that or not,” Nakamura said. “Some people were upset backstage – not John Cena – but someone. They were so pissed off at me, ‘Why did you do that?!’ I thought “Oh my career is finished today.” But everybody came to support me, even John Cena, ‘it’s not his fault, it’s my fault’ Yeah, what a good man.
“So not everybody has a chance to wrestle with John Cena now. So I felt good in the ring with John Cena. Also, I never was the villain in the ring, so if I had the chance I want to wrestle against him again. Maybe we can create something better than before.”
