Zelina Vega capturing the WWE Women’s United States Championship from Chelsea Green on last Friday night’s episode of SmackDown caught many within WWE off guard.
According to a report from PWInsiderElite.com, personnel were legitimately surprised when Vega scored the championship victory. The report further indicated that the planned title switch was kept confidential before the match.
It’s noted that the majority of talent watching the bout from the backstage area were reportedly unaware that the championship was set to change hands until the moment the referee completed the three count, confirming Vega’s win.
This marked Vega’s first-ever singles title win in WWE. It also snapped Green’s inaugural run as US Champion.
