WWE is still a few months away from SummerSlam, but fans want to know what is being planned for the big pay-per-view event.
John Cena vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been heavily reported about for SummerSlam. There’s also been speculation about a possible Brock Lesnar vs. WWE Champion Bobby Lashley match at this show.
Andrew Zarian talked about on the latest Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast how Lesnar’s name was mentioned in the early plans for the SummerSlam card. Lashley and Drew McIntyre mentioned Lesnar’s name on Monday Night Raw a few weeks ago as well. Lashley has made it clear that he wants to wrestle Lesnar, but it hasn’t been booked yet.
Dave Meltzer noted on the Sunday Night’s Main Event that Lesnar vs. Lashley wasn’t planned for SummerSlam as of a week ago. He also noted that some in WWE want to hold off on Lesnar’s return so he can do a possible WrestleMania match with Reigns.
“My impression is that Reigns and Cena is happening, I don’t know that 100%, nobody’s confirmed it. When I ask about it, no one ever denies it. Lesnar they deny. In fact I can go as far to say as of a week ago, Lesnar and Lashley was not on. It can always change. They can always call him. They can always offer him money, he will do it. Again, it’s up to Vince [McMahon] but they had not made the call a week ago. Now…I know there’s forces there that don’t want Lesnar there until it’s a feud with Reigns. Because that’s a potential WrestleMania match, Lesnar and Reigns.”
Meltzer noted there’s a lot when it comes to bringing back Lesnar whether that’s having Lashley beating Lesnar, putting the WWE Title back on Lesnar only for him to work a few matches a year, and more.
