Earlier this week, it was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that some people in WWE are furious at Jaxson Ryker for his praise of President Donald Trump and his 2019 comments about Black Lives Matter. The feeling is that he is tone deaf on what is going on with the protests happening around the country following the murder of George Floyd.
I spoke with one wrestler who said that he hopes to see Ryker at the upcoming tapings. There are some who are not bothered by Ryker’s comments and many people in WWE are Trump supporters, including several people in management. Vince McMahon’s wife Linda is spearheading Trump’s re-election campaign.
Another wrestler said he wants to see Ryker at the tapings and doesn’t wish for him to be fired but would like for Ryker to address everyone and hopefully make an effort to understand why people are protesting. The wrestler I spoke to said, “he’s a good guy and I don’t think he’s racist. I just think he grew up in a different environment and [he] didn’t have to deal with racism so he doesn’t get it. I hope he seeks out someone who can educate him on why people are outraged.”
Meltzer noted in the Observer that Ryker is unlikely to be fired for his social media posts. There was no mention of Ryker or The Forgotten Sons on the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown. He also has not posted anything publicly on social media since the fan backlash. It will be interesting to see if he is used on the next set of tapings.
