Some WWE wrestlers were against Becky Lynch using “The Man” moniker

Although Becky Lynch had been in WWE for a few years, she was considered to be a good worker, but overshadowed by other talents such as Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks.

That all changed when she turned heel at the 2018 SummerSlam pay-per-view event. That eventually led to her being over big with fans. After getting concussed by Nia Jax on an episode of Raw, she started to take off. Another big element that helped her popularity was when she started using “The Man” moniker.

It turns out that not everyone in the WWE locker room was thrilled with his moniker.

Stephanie McMahon talked about this while doing an interview with Digital Spy.

“(‘The Man) really was her idea. It’s funny because some women were very against it like, ‘Why do you have to call yourself the man? Why can’t you be The Woman.’ But she just didn’t take it, you know, too literally. The whole point was to turn that nomenclature on its ear, right, because everyone says, ‘oh the biggest, the most successful person in the room is The Man. Well, why can’t The Man be a woman?”

Currently, the former WWE Raw Women’s Champion is on a hiatus from TV as she is due with her first child. Lynch and Seth Rollins are expecting in December.
