Sonya Deville Is Retired For “Now,” Says Wrestling Again Feels Like An “Open Wound”

Former WWE Superstar Sonya Deville has provided an update on her career, stating that while she is retired from professional wrestling “for now,” she is leaving the door open for a potential return to combat sports, including MMA. Deville, who was released from her WWE contract earlier this year, explained that her primary focus at the moment is on her original dream of acting.

‘Definitely For Now’

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Deville was asked if she had retired from wrestling. She confirmed that she is at peace with stepping away but admitted that her deep loyalty to WWE makes it difficult to imagine wrestling for another promotion.

“Definitely for now. Never say never. But right now I feel at peace with that. I’m not gonna lie, and I haven’t said this, but it almost is like an open wound, and if I think about wrestling somewhere else, it’s like I was so loyal to the company, it was my only home from 21 years old to 31. I’m a ride or die type of person in general. So it’s weird to even think about doing that, but not there.”

Acting and MMA Aspirations

Deville made it clear that her passion has shifted back to her first love, acting, but a return to the MMA world that first brought her to WWE is still a possibility. She noted that she is currently training again.

“My first dream was to be an actress… I will say acting feels more true to what I want in this very moment… I do think Bare Knuckle is badass. So yeah, I can’t say never. I have a really great relationship with Invicta and Shannon Knapp, the owner of Invicta, which is the only long standing all female MMA promotion. So I’ve been doing a lot of fun stuff with them. I will say being around the girls and being like in that atmosphere again gives me some crazy nostalgia. [Are you training again?] I will be training while I’m out here. I will say that, yeah, I am training.”

Sonya Deville is currently a free agent. Outside of her training and acting pursuits, she is also co-owner of a donut shop in Los Angeles called “The Cages.”
