Spike Dudley: “I’ve Never Considered Myself As A Hall Of Famer”

Spike Dudley is a key figure in the history of ECW. Still, when it comes to a potential induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, the man himself is surprisingly indifferent. In a recent interview, the former multi-time champion stated that he doesn’t believe his “body of work” is worthy of the honor and that he doesn’t particularly care if he ever gets inducted.

As the memorable “runt of the litter” of the legendary Dudley family, Spike was part of their rise in ECW. Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley, were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018, which has led many fans to speculate that Spike is also deserving of a spot, either as a singles competitor or as part of the whole Dudley clan.

“Don’t Really Care”

When asked by Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast about the possibility of a Hall of Fame induction, Spike stated that he has never considered himself to be a Hall of Famer and doesn’t think his career warrants the recognition.

“I have no idea, and don’t really care. That’s not for me to decide. I mean, my body of work, I don’t, probably not… I guess it all depends on your criteria… I appreciate that. I do. I do. But again, that’s not for me to decide. I don’t know how they figure out who’s in the Hall of Fame or whatnot. You know what I mean?… I wouldn’t say no, but I’ve never considered myself as a Hall of Famer.”

Past Issues with WWE

Spike also reflected on his departure from WWE in 2005, admitting that he was a “bitter douchebag” and a “pouty pussy” about his release at the time. He openly wondered if the way he handled his exit and the vocal criticisms he made may have left a lasting negative impression on the company.

“I don’t even know what that means. Amazing, I guess. No, no, what is that? What do you mean?… But that’s fine. When I walked away, especially from WWE, I was a bitter douchebag. I was angry when they let me go… I took it really personally and reacted like a douche, and I don’t know if anybody there holds resentment against me. I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to any of them then. I don’t know if that’s significant or not, and I don’t know, again comes the Hall of Fame. I wouldn’t induct me to the Hall of Fame.”
