The rumors going around about a possible WWE Horsewomen vs. MMA Horsewomen match at the Survivor Series pay-per-view seem more plausible now after the latest report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer noted this week that Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir have been doing extensive wrestling training as of late. Rousey, as previously reported, has been training in California with Brian Kendrick. Shafir has been training in Orlando and Baszler started training at the Performance Center a couple of weeks ago. Duke has been training for the last few months at the Santino Bro. Wrestling Academy in California. Also, if you watch NXT programming, then you would have seen Shafir in the crowd a couple of months ago cheering on her fiancee Roderick Strong during his feud with Bobby Roode so it seems like she has either signed a deal or will sign a deal very soon.
All four women are huge WWE fans and Rousey has talked about being a huge fan since she was a kid. People that were around her during the Mae Young Classic tapings and during the finale say that she appeared to be having the time of her life and seemed genuinely happy to be involved with WWE so it would only make sense for her to get involved with them.
So, what’s next? Well, it’s looking like the WWE Horsewomen vs. MMA Horsewomen match will be the first big angle. The belief is that the match will lead to a big singles match at WrestleMania with Rousey taking on a current WWE star. At first, there was talk of Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon but now the plans are for Rousey to face Charlotte Flair. Presumably, Rousey will be backed up by Shafir, Duke, and Baszler while Flair would be back up at ringside by Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch at Mania.
If this 4 vs. 4 match happens at Survivor Series, then this has the potential to get tons of press and it may be one of the most watched Survivor Series shows in WWE history. It will be a big weekend for WWE with Takeover: War Games, Survivor Series, Raw, and Smackdown Live all taking place on consecutive days at the same arena.
Oh, and did we mention that there’s a big Raw vs. Smackdown match scheduled for that show? It’s a spoiler but if you want to know more then click here.
