SPOILER: Current plan for one of the main events at WWE WrestleMania 37

As WrestlingNews.co reported several weeks ago, there is strong consideration being given to having Randy Orton win the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre so he could defend it either at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the current plan is for Edge vs. Orton in an I Quit Match at Mania.

The match was supposed to happen at SummerSlam but those plans changed because of Edge’s injury. WrestlingNews.co was told that the SummerSlam match was going to be the last in their series of matches so that Edge and Orton could move on to other feuds.

Meltzer noted that Edge has significant creative influence on Raw, which would explain why Edge’s promos sound less scripted than most of the promos you hear on WWE television.

As of this writing, the plan is for Orton to challenge McIntyre for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Meltzer acknowledged that there have been rumors that Orton could take the title off of McIntyre at SummerSlam but it seems counterproductive to have Orton be the person to take the title off of McIntyre right now since WWE needs new people to get Superstar pushes.
