A major return could be in the cards for this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown from Chicago. A new report from Fightful Select has revealed that Brock Lesnar has been scheduled to travel to Chicago this week. The report adds that WWE sources have indicated that he was “discussed as a possibility for the show.” His potential appearance would add another layer of star power to what is already expected to be a newsworthy broadcast.
The report notes that Lesnar was actually scheduled to arrive in Chicago on Thursday, a day before the live SmackDown broadcast from the Allstate Arena. WWE is reportedly looking to make this episode a special one, as it is also rumored to be John Cena’s final appearance on the blue brand in addition to AJ Lee’s expected return.
“Based on what we heard, WWE intentionally hoped to load up this episode of Smackdown ahead of a WrestlePalooza show that they also intentionally loaded up,” the report states. The feud between Lesnar and Cena was ignited at the SummerSlam premium live event on August 3, when Lesnar made his shocking return to WWE after a two-year absence and attacked Cena. Their one-on-one encounter is reportedly scheduled for the inaugural Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20 in Indianapolis.
A recent report from WrestleVotes has also indicated that tonight’s SmackDown is expected to be the final appearance on the show for the retiring John Cena. If that is the case, a final confrontation with Lesnar would be an explosive way to end his long history with the blue brand.
