As of this writing, WWE has not said anything about John Cena’s status for WrestleMania.
Cena will be in New York City for a book signing and he has told people that he plans on being part of WrestleMania. The original plan was for him to face Lars Sullivan. The idea was for Sullivan to attack Cena before the Royal Rumble and Cena would return in March to set up the match.
Those plans were thrown out when Sullivan suffered an anxiety attack and flew home. The last I was told about Sullivan is that Vince McMahon is still behind him and he will get a big push but it might not happen until after WrestleMania.
I asked a WWE source if this was a coincidence or if Cena vs. Joe is a possibility. It’s not confirmed but several people in the company are under the impression that Cena vs. Joe is the current plan. Cena and Joe are friends and they trained together in 2000 before they started in the wrestling business. Cena has also pushed for this match before and it looks like it’s finally happening this year.
