Due to delays in coronavirus testing last Tuesday, WWE didn’t tape tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown at the time.
The plan was and still is to tape the show this afternoon. However, due to the reveal that numerous people tested positive for the virus, WWE had to make re-writes to the script of the show.
With testing results still being unknown from Thursday’s latest round, WWE will likely have to make more changes. Thus, the show will have a different format than what fans are used to seeing.
Pwinsider.com reports that around half of tonight’s SmackDown episode will be Undertaker-centric. This includes the broadcast of the Boneyard Match between AJ Styles and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 36.
Also, per the report, the current plan for the episode to feature appearances from Matt Riddle and Jeff Hardy.
WWE has already announced a few segments and a title match for the show including WWE Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles making his first title defense against Drew Gulak. For a full preview of the show, click here.
Whether what has been advertised for the show actually makes air remains to be seen. It appears that half of the show will be about Taker while the rest will be filled out by talent who were cleared to work the show.
WWE is moving forward with taping TV today for tonight’s Smackdown and this Monday’s episode of Raw. They will also tape tomorrow.
