SPOILER: Plans for the Independence Day Battle Royal on Smackdown Live

The Independence Day Battle Royal will take place on Smackdown Live this coming Tuesday night. The winner is scheduled to challenge Kevin Owens for the United States Championship. WWE has already teased something between Styles and Owens and that was done by design because Styles is scheduled to face Owens for the United States Championship at 7/23 WWE Battleground show in Philadelphia.

In fact, WWE doesn’t seem to be hiding the fact that Styles will be challenging for the title. They have yet to announce other competitors for the match and they posted this as part of the preview for the match: “AJ Styles has made it clear in recent weeks that he is coming after Owens, as he wants to represent the United States as its champion. The New Face of America gloated that The Phenomenal One would never get to answer his open challenge because he doesn’t deserve it.”

They also wrote: ” Can Styles earn the chance he’s been looking for, or will a new Superstar emerge from the pack to challenge the United States Champion?” So, the company clearly wants fans to focus on Styles vs. Owens.

As of now, only two matches have been announced for the show:

WWE Championship – Punjabi Prison Match
Jinder Mahal (Champion) vs. Randy Orton

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The Usos (Champions) vs. The New Day

Also, in additon to Styles vs. Owens and the matches listed above, it’s looking like these matches will be added to the card:

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin

Sami Zayn vs. Mike Kanellis

The Fashion Police vs. the real team who attacked them (American Alpha, perhaps?)

Lana is claiming that she was never pinned in her match with Naomi so it looks like they might be setting up for another rematch between them.
