It’s looking like we’ll get at least one title change at this Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Dave Meltzer reported that, according to current plans, neither AJ Styles or Kevin Owens are going to be champions going into WrestleMania. That doesn’t mean that they have to drop the titles at the Royal Rumble because they still have the Elimination Chamber match in February where AJ Styles’ title will be on the line and Fastlane in March. It would make the most sense for Chris Jericho to somehow cost Owens the title and then they can start their feud leading up to Mania.
There are many things they could do creatively. Cena could defeat Styles at the Rumble and then lose it in the chamber match next month. Owens could also retain and lost the title at Fastlane in March but something tells me that someone will be dropping a title on Sunday. I can see them doing a title change at the Chamber show because they would still have 7 weeks to hype the Smackdown title match but a title change at Fastlane would only give them four weeks to hype the Universal title match so it would make sense for Owens to drop it at the Rumble.
As of now, it’s looking like we’re getting Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar, Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins, Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens, Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton, Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal and Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax for the Raw Women’s Championship. There’s no word yet on what they might have planned from Braun Strowman.
