WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER is days removed from retaining the title over Mustafa Ali on Saturday afternoon at the Night of Champions premium live event from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The finish of this back-and-forth match saw GUNTHER hit a drop kick, then hit his powerbomb finisher for the win.
WWE has pushed GUNTHER as a top star since making his main roster arrival last year, something that will continue. Coming out of the WWE Draft, GUNTHER was moved from SmackDown to Raw, where he is positioned as the top heel on the internal roster listing.
He’s followed by The Miz, Bronson Reed, JD McDonagh, and Riddick Moss as the top heels on Raw. The top babyfaces are Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Matt Riddle, Shinsuke Nakamura, Johnny Gargano, Dexter Lumis, Akira Tozawa, Apollo Crews, and Odyssey Jones.
Insider account Boozer #BWE, which has broken past WWE stories, reported that Matt Riddle will be the next in line to challenge GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Title.
The account didn’t mention when the feud will start nor when their first match will happen, but it’s likely WWE will save the bout for Money in the Bank on July 1.
