SPOILER: Title match planned for SummerSlam, WWE to use virtual fans?

WWE has yet to announce all of the matches planned for this year’s SummerSlam event even though the show is just over a week from taking place.

However, one match planned has been revealed. Pwinsider.com reports that Jeff Hardy challenging WWE Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles is expected to be added to the lineup.

Per the report, this was the direction planned for the SmackDown episode that was slated to be taped last week.

Due to the chaos and lack of direction at last week’s TV tapings, WWE had to nix the tapings and will be taping the SmackDown episode on Thursday at the WWE Performance Center.

Another interesting note in the report included how “WWE is, for the first time, toying with using virtual fans as a possibility for future broadcasts, including SummerSlam.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, WWE had been doing empty arena shows before deciding to use Performance Center recruits as fans in attendance for tapings.

It appears that WWE has locked down a venue for not only SummerSlam but also other events.

WWE holds the SummerSlam pay-per-view event on Sunday, August 23, 2020. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton, WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt, and Seth Rollins vs. Dominik Mysterio are the top matches featured on the card.
