A major match has been set for the upcoming WWE Evolution premium live event, as WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus made her return on the July 4th episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
During the show, which was taped on June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA, Stratus confronted WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton. The segment concluded with a championship match between the two being made official for the all-women’s PLE on Sunday, July 13.
The appearance was Stratus’s first since March. Recent reports had indicated that her return to WWE programming was “right around the corner,” with the company keen on having her involved in the Evolution event.
Stratton and Stratus are no strangers to each other, having teamed up at the Elimination Chamber event in March to take on Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. Now, they will stand on opposite sides of the ring with the WWE Women’s Championship on the line.
The July 4th episode of SmackDown also marked the show’s permanent return to a two-hour format after airing for three hours since the beginning of the year. You can read the full SmackDown spoilers here.
