Steve Austin gives high praise to The Undertaker, comments on Royal Rumble

WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin recently spoke with Scott Fishman of TV Insider to promote the premiere of the new season of his show “Broken Skull Challenge.” During the interview, he was asked about Sunday’s Royal Rumble match. He noted that it would be interesting to see what WWE does with Goldberg and Brock Lesnar as they are expected to wrestle at WrestleMania 33 against each other. He noted that they brought back The Undertaker and he has to be a force in the match. He said that Braun Strowman is a physical guy and has to be booked strong and eliminate a decent amount of guys. He doesn’t know if Strowman is ready to main event WrestleMania. He made it clear that he is not trying to book the match and is just going to enjoy it. “They are relying on the established stars to help out with their experience. I think it’s more than nostalgia. There are these guys who have been there, done it over and over. People still want to see them, but the fact they are this veteran presence and super well-known. Most of that roster is not over to the degree a lot of the current guys are.” He thinks WWE should let the young guys and veterans get into it in the match because the young guys get a rub and they are the future of WWE. He noted that WWE is drawing any way they can to sell tickets for the event.

When asked about The Undertaker, he responded by asking how much longer Taker has left in pro wrestling. He noted that they’re friends and catch up when they see each other. He praised Taker for the career he had and noted that the taller you are in pro wrestling it takes more of a toll on their body. He noted that Taker has been in some wars. He brought up that they joked to each other about how long they can wrestle and noted that he left in 2003 while Taker is still going strong now and said that he is a tough SOB. “It’s been an unbelievable ride and an incredible career. He is a badass. There is only one guy who could have pulled that gimmick off the way he is doing it, and his name is Mark Calaway.”
