Steve Austin gives his thoughts on CM Punk working on WWE Backstage

WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin was on the State of Combat podcast this week where he spoke about a wide range of topics including CM Punk being an analyst on WWE Backstage.

Punk is not under contract with WWE but rather FOX Sports 1. The deal was made recently.

Last week’s show was up to 100,000 viewers from the initial premiere that drew 49,000 viewers. The first show, which aired on Tuesday, to feature Punk throughout it was up to 180,000 viewers.

According to Austin, he doesn’t know if Punk working on the show will lead to him being back in the ring. He does think that Punk’s return does bring a breath of fresh air to the product.

“I don’t know if it leads to anything more, I guess speculation, to be determined, we’ll find out. Just the fact that he’s returned to be doing business with WWE, I love, because I don’t know, they split up on bad terms, and now they’re back in business together.

CM Punk was a lights out pro-wrestler, great promos, great work, great talent, so to have him back in the fold, obviously, I guess they ironed out whatever they need to iron out, and both sides are happy. It’s great to have CM Punk back in the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment business. It’s a breath of fresh air because the guy brings a great perspective, great insight, and great opinion on all things sports entertainment.”
