Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting is no longer under WWE contract, as first reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet.
Ryan Satin noted that although the WWE Hall Of Famer is no longer under contract, it does not necessarily mean that a merchandising deal can’t be worked out.
There was speculation yesterday about Sting being done with WWE after it was announced on the Major Wrestling Figure podcast that Sting was no longer part of the Mattel toy line.
Rumors were fueled on social media about Sting possibly doing business with AEW after an earcup GIF was posted by Cody Rhodes shortly after tweets from Sting about Lance Archer and Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Sting was forced to retire from wrestling because of neck issues but he has expressed interest in at least one more match and he has told people that he feels fine physically.
A one-off match may seem unlikely in AEW but nothing seems off-limits these days after Daniel Bryan and Edge’s return to the ring after they thought their career was over. Tony Khan and Cody Rhodes are huge fans of old school wrestling and Cody has helped bring in people (Arn Anderson) who worked with Dusty Rhodes in AEW. Sting and Dusty were allies in WCW.
If there is any interest in bringing in Sting, it would not be a bad idea to have him present the TNT Championship at Double Or Nothing.
