WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin recently spoke with Adrian Hernandez on the “Unlikely” podcast, offering updates on his health, his relationship with CM Punk, and his plans for WrestleMania week.
Austin, recovering from knee replacement surgery, is optimistic about his progress. “I’m feeling good. I’m about 13 weeks out. It really takes about a year for these things to fully heal up, so it’s still a little bit tender,” he said. He’s preparing for a challenging off-road race: “Just got back in the car and started driving. We’re about to run the Met 400 race. It’s gonna be a rough race, probably the roughest race I’ve ever driven. So if I can just keep my knee together…just gonna do the best I can. But the knee is feeling solid. I’m out of pain because they cut the arthritis out. I’m in a good place, but I’ve got some work to do.”
Regarding WrestleMania week in Las Vegas, Austin confirmed his presence, though he hasn’t discussed any official role with WWE. “I have some appearances, you know, I will be in town. I haven’t talked with WWE or anything like that. But, you know, I’ll be around,” he stated.
Austin also discussed his friendship with CM Punk. “Me and Punk are friends from way back,” Austin said, referencing a photo taken when Punk was a young fan. “He was just a young kid. He was a Stone Cold fan back in the day. I’m a CM Punk fan. I’m a fan of his work and his promos. He can light somebody up.” While they don’t communicate frequently, Austin emphasized their mutual respect: “So, you know, we don’t talk a whole lot. We’ll send each other a text every now and then, but when we’re probably really, really good friends and don’t talk a whole lot. We have a lot of mutual respect for each other.”
