Stone Cold Steve Austin Reveals His Favorite WrestleMania Match

Former WWE Superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin recently revealed his favourite WrestleMania match. This week’s episode of the Steve Austin Show Podcast was a Q&A themed episode, with Austin answering questions from fans mainly revolving around WrestleMania.

Austin answered a question on what is his favourite WrestleMania match, revealing that it is the Macho Man Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat match from WrestleMania 3.

Savage vs Steamboat

“My favourite is the match between Ricky Steamboat and Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage” Austin began.  “Because that match was off the charts good. Maybe a little bit ahead of its time, those two guys, the wicked chemistry that they had. The other two people that helped pull that matches up were George ‘The Animal’ Steele of course and the lovely beautiful, Miss Elizabeth.”

Austin elaborated further, saying “that crowd was digging it, in a gigantic big as* big arena. And those two guys lit it up and you can talk to anybody. And, You know, there ain’t a guy or gal in the business that doesn’t recognise that…”

Interestingly, there is actually quite a backlash against this match from people within the business. Randy Savage was renowned for wanting to plan his matches ahead of time, almost to the nth degree. Some talents believe that you need to ‘call it out there’ with the match being booked on the fly by the talents in the ring. Funnily enough, Austin is one of the people who champions this line of thinking.

“Sometimes they rank some of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history,” Austin continued. “And I read one list where WrestleMania 13 was the number one [Austin vs Bret Hart]. But to me, that [WrestleMania 3] match was so special. It was frickin believable. So that would be one of my favourite all time moments in WrestleMania history. But there’s been so many of them. It’s hard to really go out on a limb and pick many more because they’re all muddled together in my memory.”
