With his career on the line at the Royal Rumble this Saturday, renewed trademark applications have come out for AJ Styles. Styles is set to face GUNTHER in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the stipulation that he must retire if he loses.
Two separate filings have been submitted to the USPTO by Allen Jones, the real-life name of the WWE star.
Under Serial Number 99619439, a filing was submitted to trademark the term “The Phenomenal AJ Styles.” The Goods and Services Category covers providing wrestling news and information, wrestling exhibits and performances, and live appearances by a professional wrestler. The entry states that this trademark has a “First Use Anywhere” and “First Use in Commerce” of December 2000, coinciding with the early career of Styles.
The second trademark application falls under the Serial Number 99619430 and refers to the familiar “P1” stylized logo associated with the star. The Goods and Services categories for this filing include shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other apparel, as well as the entertainment services listed in the first application. This entry lists “First Use” dates of December 2011, which predates his current run in WWE.
While WWE typically holds trademarks for many of its roster, there are several cases in which individuals retain their own rights. In Styles’ case, he has always owned the ring name and logo. He simply renewed the trademarks.
