AJ Styles may have wrestled his final match in Japan on October 18th during a WWE live event at the historic Sumo Hall in Tokyo. The potential farewell came during WWE’s SuperShow tour, adding an emotional layer to the event for both Styles and the Japanese fans who witnessed his previous success in the country.
Styles has indicated in recent months that he plans to retire from in-ring competition in 2026. During the event, Styles competed early in the show, securing a victory over Kofi Kingston. However, the more significant moments came after the main event concluded.
Members of the WWE roster called Styles back to the ring for a special send-off. He addressed the appreciative crowd with a speech, which was translated for the fans by fellow WWE star and former NJPW rival, Shinsuke Nakamura. The farewell concluded with Styles being hoisted onto the shoulders of Ivar and CM Punk as a sign of respect.
This moment held extra significance given Styles’ history in Japan. Before joining WWE, AJ Styles was a top star for NJPW in 2014 and 2015. During his tenure with NJPW, he achieved significant success, including winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on two separate occasions. His time in Japan cemented his status as one of the best wrestlers in the world before his eventual debut in WWE.
