Tensions boiled over on Monday Night Raw as AJ Styles confronted Gunther following the “Ring General’s” controversial remarks about John Cena.
The Segment
Earlier in the evening, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce intercepted Gunther backstage. Pearce advised him to show respect when addressing the crowd regarding his recent victory over John Cena, reminding him that “all eyes are on him” now.
Gunther entered the ring and acknowledged management’s request, but immediately twisted the narrative. Instead of showing respect to Cena, Gunther demanded respect for himself, bragging about forcing Cena to tap out—something Cena had famously vowed never to do.
Just as Gunther began to insult the 16-time World Champion further, he was interrupted by AJ Styles. Gunther dismissed Styles immediately, telling him he was “punching above his weight” and proclaiming himself the greatest wrestler in the company. Gunther then returned his focus to Cena, calling him a “little b**ch” and mocking Cena’s signature “You Can’t See Me” gesture directly at Styles.
Styles responded instantly, slapping Gunther across the face. The strike left Gunther seething but motionless in the center of the ring. Styles stared him down and delivered a parting shot: “That’s what I thought… nothing.” Styles then tossed his microphone at Gunther and exited the ring, leaving the segment on a tense note.
