Rust talked about his return to ROH at Death Before Dishonor, his WWE NXT experience and his release, his match against Tracy Williams in the Pure Title Tournament, nearly walking away from wrestling and more.
Former WWE star Tyler Rust/Taylor Rust was interviewed this week on the ROH Strong podcast.
Taylor Rust talking about his time in NXT:
“Not only did I get signed, but I got on TV right away. I got used very well the entire time I was there. They put me with Malcolm (Bivens), who’s a tremendous mouthpiece. I love working with him so much. I got paired up with a solid group with Roderick Strong and Hideki, two amazing other wrestlers. They painted me in a very good light. I can’t complain about a single thing while I was there, honestly. Just out of nowhere, all of a sudden, hey, I know this is going great for you, but we need to let you go. It’s still very baffling to think about, but I don’t dwell on those negative things. It’s all about moving forward and handling those unknowns as best you can.”
Rust was asked if he worked closely with Shawn Michaels and Hunter and if they were hands on in NXT:
“Very hands on. Shawn and Hunter, Triple H, they are very hands on. I worked with Shawn more so. He was the reason why I started TV right away. He took notice of me when I was there. He looked up my matches online. He pulled me into a meeting in his office and we had a great talk. He told me, ‘Hey man. I looked up your stuff. I don’t know who you are, but I love your work. I love your look, and I think you can be something really big here. I want to use you right away.’ Hearing this from Shawn Michaels, it’s like, ‘Wow, ok.’”
