As noted earlier, WWE’s John Laurinaitis sent out a text message to the roster about the recent talent releases.
WWE’s claim is that the releases were for budget reasons. It’s the same thing that is usually said to all released talent.
Here is what was said in the text message:
“Due to Budget cuts the following talent were released today. Braun Strowman, Lana, Buddy Murphy, Santana Garrett, Ruby Riott, and Aleister Black. – John Laurinaitis”
As noted earlier, Strowman was one of the highest paid wrestlers in the company and the feeling on him was that he was past his peak and now that Omos is on the main roster, there was no need for another “giant” on Raw, especially with Omos being several inches taller than Strowman.
There were many people surprised at Aleister Black’s release since he had just returned to SmackDown to start a feud with Big E. Ruby Riott was well liked by everyone backstage so her release upset a lot of people. In other cases, the feeling is that creative did not have much for them. Lana’s release may also be related to her pay since she signed a higher paying deal last year.
