The ending for the WWE Raw main event was botched

As previously noted, the finish for the main event on WWE Raw looked awkward because there was a Vince McMahon rule in place that hasn’t been mentioned much on television.

The rule is that if an illegal man strikes the legal man in the ring then the match is ruled a disqualification. The rule does not apply if the illegal wrestler jumps in the ring to break up a pin.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer says someone in WWE told him that they botched their own rule.

Meltzer said, “I was actually told that they screwed up their own rule because it’s a breakup of a finish so a submission is also a thing. So, if you break up a pin or submission you’re allowed to do it, but if you just hit the legal man for no reason then it is a disqualification which makes absolutely no sense, but that’s the story.”

This is just another example of how stressful it is to be a referee in WWE. In recent weeks we’ve seen a match stopped abruptly with an audible called because of Ivar’s injury and the following week, there was the controversial ending to the Mickie James-Asuka match.
