WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather has traded the bumps in the ring for a more relaxed lifestyle. On the recent “Poddin’ Ain’t Easy” podcast, The Godfather answered a question from a fan who wondered what he thinks of the current wrestling product.
“Unfortunately, I respect the business. Have love for the business. Met a lot of good people in this business, and I hope all these young cats are making money,” Wright commented, acknowledging his deep-rooted connection to the wrestling world. However, his days of tuning in to watch the latest matches are over.
“But I don’t watch wrestling anymore. I don’t watch much TV,” he admitted. Instead, Wright finds solace in the melodies of country music and the captivating storylines of the television series “Yellowstone.” He occasionally indulges in his love for classic films, particularly black and white Westerns, a preference stemming from his childhood. “I watch ‘Yellowstone’ series. I used to watch ‘Street Outlaws,’ and old cowboy movies on every now and then. Black and white, because that’s what I watched with my dad growing up.”
This nostalgic connection to his past is something Wright treasures, especially as his 93-year-old father continues to enjoy those same classic Westerns. “My dad is 93 years old, still every day watching them black and white cowboys,” he fondly shared.
While his appreciation for classic entertainment remains steadfast, Wright’s interest in sports has dwindled. “I’ve lost a lot of interest, and I don’t have no reason, probably because I don’t bet, but I don’t really watch sports anymore. I don’t watch football. I’ll catch a little bit, but, maybe because I don’t bet, but I don’t really watch, I don’t watch sportscenter, music, workout, busy. I stay busy. I stay busy.”
Despite his detachment from the wrestling scene, Wright expressed his support for the current generation of performers. “But no nothing against it. I’m glad that there’s places for these guys to make money,” he remarked.
After hanging up his wrestling boots, Wright embarked on a new chapter in his life, managing the Cheetah’s strip club in Las Vegas.
