As noted on Tuesday morning, Sami Zayn underwent an MRI for the shoulder injury he suffered before his match with John Cena on Monday Night Raw. It's clear if you watch the video that it happened as he raised his arms up to pump the crowd up just as he was walking up the ring steps before the match started. Zayn may have made the injury worse during the match.
There is no official word on his status but WWE source have told Dave Meltzer that it looks to be serious and the talk backstage at Smackdown was that he would be out of action for a few months. Two others have said that they had not gotten a report back from the doctor yet. Zayn has had shoulder issues in the past and had just returned to action on April 2nd. Zayn's match was not supposed to be his official move to the main roster but he was originally scheduled to be on Smackdown this week.
It will be interesting to see how they handle the main event of NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable because Zayn was supposed to challenge Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship. There is a number 1 contenders triple threat match scheduled for that show between Hideo Itami, Finn Balor, and Tyler Breeze but the word within the company is that Itami will not be able to wrestle either. Itami has had knee issues in the past.
