The latest on Johnny Gargano’s contract status with WWE

It does not look like Johnny Gargano has agreed to a new contract with WWE but he will stick around for a little while longer to finish up his current storyline.

Fightful is reporting that Gargano signed a one week extension so he can wrestle at NXT WarGames where he will be part of the old school team against the new school group of wrestlers. Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa officially reunited on last night’s NXT 2.0 broadcast.

Gargano’s deal was originally set to expire on December 3rd but the extension will take him up to December 10th. This is similar to what Adam Cole did. His deal expired in July but he signed a short-term extension so he could finish up at the TakeOver show in August.

At this point, it does not look like Gargano has signed a long-term contract but WWE wants to keep him and Dave Meltzer reported last week that he was offered a good deal to stay. Gargano is well-liked backstage and is said to be a favorite of Shawn Michaels but it’s unclear what the future would hold for him when it comes time for him to move up to the main roster.

If Gargano leaves, one has to assume that AEW would offer him a deal because he’s an excellent wrestler and he has a lot of friends there.
